Gordon Fletcher & Sons is one of the oldest established family businesses in Spennymoor, County Durham.
Originally founded by Gordon Fletcher's father, Thomas Atkinson Fletcher, who had originally worked with his uncle, Percy Byers in the same line of business. Then run for many years by Gordon Fletcher, who is now enjoying his retirement.
In 1938 the family business was set up at its present main office premises of Charles Street, Spennymoor where it is currently run by two of Gordon Fletcher's sons Peter & Colin.
The business has grown over the years, expanding with the building of additional premises at nearby Ferryhill, Co. Durham in 1997 and more recently at Newton Aycliffe, Co. Durham in November 2011.
The Ferryhill Office, Rest Rooms and Service Chapel, named Lazarus House at Linden Road, Ferryhill was originally a derelict church and after extensive refurbishment by our own building business, it has been restored back to its original splendour.
Our Spennymoor Office & Rest Rooms at Charles Street, have also undergone extensive refurbishment and expansion to complement the work achieved at Lazarus House. More recently, we have undertaken a large conversion and building project at our new premises, Cobblers Hall Village Centre, Newton Aycliffe.
We own and run two funeral fleets, the first being our most recent addition, a fleet of luxury Mercedes Benz, Hearse and two Limousines and a second of our existing Mercedes Hearse and Limousines, which are used not only by ourselves, but also hired out by other independent family undertakers within the County Durham area.
We have recently added a fully restored 1955 Austin FX3 vintage hearse to our fleet.
One of only three known to be in the country, but the only one to have had a Full Restoration, which will be available for use on our own funerals, but may be hired out to other Funeral Directors around the country.
We also have designated removal vehicles for the discreet but dignified transportation of a loved one from their own homes, hospitals or hospices etc. into our care.
